Mr Mojo (2002-2022)
Back to rock’n roll! Started in 2002, this tune is based on a simple funky blues-rock riff in E, with a few rhythm tricks and odd measures here and there.
Mr Mojo – Draft
It took a while to write a melody on top of the main riff, and develop the theme into a song (the initial B part was much more complex and had to be simplified quite a bit to fit). The other challenge was to find the right tone I had in mind for the melody. And it took a bit of training to find out what to play on drums too!
Maybe it explains why it spent almost 20 years on my hard drive without any progress!
Gear
- Electric Guitars: Fender partcaster (a.k.a. Miss Mojo) for the main riff and solo (with both pickups in series for the solo, thanks to a freeway switch), PRS Special semi-hollow for the melody, with the not yet released PolyVibe plug-in in reverse mode for a Wah type of sound.
- Bass Guitar: Warwick Streamer (P-Bass style pickup)
- Drums & Percussions: Roland V-Drums triggering the Addictive Drums plug-in, by XLN Audio.
- B3 Organ: Nord Stage 2.
- All effects plug-ins (guitar tones, reverbs, Univibe, wah, compressors etc.) by Blue Cat Audio.
Note: while the “mojo” noise at the beginning is definitely real analog buzz, the feedback at the end of the tune is generated artificially, thanks to the AcouFiend plug-in.
